Downtown Florence Unlimited (DFU) is comprised of professional retail and services
business, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and individuals.
DFU bylaws were established in 1963 to promote the growth and better welfare of
downtown entities. Since then, DFU, in cooperation with the City
of Florence, the Florence/Lauderdale
Tourism Department, the University
of North Alabama, and the Florence
Main Street Program, continues its commitment to serve the needs of
its members while promoting economic growth in the downtown area.
Please

third Wednesday from 8am to 9am in the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library

primary goals are: •
To foster and promote vigorously and effectively trade and commerce in downtown
Florence. • To foster, promote and advertise vigorously and effectively the
advantages of shopping in downtown Florence. • To promote better relations
between all business, commercial and professional enterprises both as among and
between themselves and with the general public. • To promote and develop better
public parking facilities, traffic flow and to work closely with the officials
of the City of Florence and of Lauderdale County, Alabama, in attaining these
objectives. • To engage in and promote all matters of common interest to its
members. • To gather, publish and disseminate interesting and factual information
respecting the advantages of trading in downtown Florence. • To combat actively
all influences, publicity and actions which are intended to adversely affect the
fuller utilization of downtown Florence as a growing business, commercial and
professional center. • To cooperate to the fullest with all parties who have
similar aims and purposes of the promotion of activities for the common good of
downtown Florence. If you are a business owner, professional services
provider, or individual concerned with the betterment of the downtown Florence
area and its surrounding community, then by all means consider joining our cause.
Membership levels are available for all interested parties. Be a part of your
community and help preserve the historical, economic and cultural quality of life
unique to downtown Florence.

comes alive at First Fridays in Florence (Celebrating our fourth
year of events) www.FirstFridaysFlorence.com
The
First Fridays in Florence
Committee received a certificate from Governor Bob Riley at
the State Capitol Wednesday, November 5, 2008. David Messer, past-President
of DFU and Ashley Winkle, Director of Florence Main Street, accepted
the award for the First Fridays Committee. The certificate recognized
the First Fridays event as a partner in the 2007 Alabama Year of Arts
campaign. The Travel Industry Association awarded the Alabama
Tourism Department its Discover America marketing award for the
campaign and is featured in the November issue of National Geographic
Traveler.
